Gladstone Pereira della Valentina(born 29 January 1985), known simply asGladstone,is a Brazilian professionalfootballerwho plays forVitória-ESas acentre back.

Club career

Born inVila Velha,Espírito Santo,Gladstone started playing professionally withCruzeiro Esporte Clubeat the age of 18. From then onwards he started a series of consecutive loans, starting in the 2005–06 season in Italy: first withJuventus FCand, after no appearances, withHellas Verona FC,but the former club chose not to activate the pre-set price of2 million,[1]one of the reasons being the impending2006 Italian football scandal;he subsequently returned to Cruzeiro, signing a new three-year deal.

In2007–08,Gladstone was loaned out again, this time toSporting CP,[2]where he rarely played due to the presence of compatriotÂnderson PolgaandTonel.[3]Mainly used as a latesubstitute,he still managed to score once, in a 4–1Primeira Ligahome win againstAssociação Naval 1º de Maio;[4]after the campaign finished and he helped his team finish second, he closed the year with another loan, atSociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.[5]

Gladstone moved on 19 January 2009, still owned by Cruzeiro, toClube Náutico Capibaribe.[6][7]On 13 February of the following year his contract with theBelo Horizonteside expired, and he returned to Europe, signing for three years withFC Vasluiin Romania.[8]

From 2013 and until his retirement, save for one year back in thePortuguese top divisionwithGil Vicente FC,[9]Gladstone competed exclusively in the Brazilian lower leagues.

International career

Gladstone was a member of theBrazil under-20squad at the2005 FIFA World Youth Championshipin the Netherlands, taking home thebronze medal.[10]On 15 November 2006, he was called up to thefull sideas an injury replacement for thefriendly matchwithSwitzerland,but did not make his debut.[11]

On 6 September 2007, Gladstone was again picked by managerDungafor the games againstMexicoand theUnited States,but did not receive any playing time as well.[12]
