Gregoir[Gregory,Gregorius] (died 1195) is the third known 12th centuryBishop of Ross,anepiscopal seethen based atRosemarkie.

Biography

According to theChronicle of Melrose,Gregoir was consecrated byErnald,Bishop of St Andrewsacting as aPapal legate,in 1161.[1]

He occurred in a document ofScone Abbeyin either 1163 or 1164, namely in "the eleventh year of Malcolm", the year ending 23 May 1164.[2]He witnessed acharterissued atInvernessby KingWilliam the Lion,datable to between 1172 and 1174, confirming a gift of land made bySimon de Tosny,Bishop of Moray,to a hermit inInverness-shire.[3]Little more is known of his episcopate.

TheChronicle of Melrosereported his death in 1195, and the election of his successorReinald Macerin March of that year.[4]The English chroniclerRoger of Howdengave his death-date for the same year, and added that it fell in the month of February.[5]
