TheHainan DailyorHainan Ribao[2](simplified Chinese:Hải Nam nhật báo;traditional Chinese:Hải Nam nhật báo;pinyin:Hǎinán rìbào) is aChinese languagedaily newspaperpublished inHainan Province,People's Republic of China. Originally the organ of theHainan Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party( trung cộng Hải Nam tỉnh ủy cơ quan ngôn luận ),[3]it was established on May 7, 1950,[4]formerly known asNew Hainan Post( tân Hải Nam báo ),[5]which was renamed to its current name in 1958.[6]

In January 1991,Hainan Dailylaunched theHainan Daily Overseas Edition( Hải Nam nhật báo hải ngoại bản ),[7]which is based onHainan Special Administrative Region,facing overseas, focusing onSoutheast Asia,introducing the policies ofHainan Special Economic Zone( Hải Nam kinh tế đặc khu ) and the investment environment and other information.[8]

Followingreform and opening up,in July 2004,Hainan Dailywas privatised and became part of theHainan Daily Press Group( Hải Nam nhật báo báo nghiệp tập đoàn ). This group also operates the online news servicehinews.cnin simplified Chinese, which in 2009 won a national prize for innovative website development.[4]
