Chole bhatureHindi pronunciation:[t͡ʃʰoː.leːbʱə.ʈuː.ɾeː]is a food dish popular in the northern areas of theIndian subcontinent.[1]It is a combination ofchana masala(spicy white chickpeas) andbhatura/puri,a deep-fried bread made frommaida.[2][3][4]

Chole bhature is often eaten as a breakfast dish, sometimes accompanied withlassi.It can also be street food or a complete meal and may be accompanied withonions,pickled carrots, green chutney orachaar.[5]

Origin

Chole bhature's place of origin is debated. Some sources claim it originated inDelhi,where it is very popular.[6][7]Others claim it originated in easternUttar Pradesh.[8][9]

Preparation

Chole is prepared by cookingchickpeasand adding spices such ascumin,coriander seeds,turmericpowder, andchili powder.Onion,garlic,andgingerare also added for additional flavor. Bhature is prepared by combining flour, salt, and oil, and kneading the dough. The dough is rolled out into circles anddeep-frieduntil the bhature puff up.[10]
