TheHaraz River(Persian:رودخانه هراز) is a notable river flowing through theMazandaran Provinceof northernIran.It flows northwards, from theAlborz mountain rangeinto theCaspian Sea.After flowing along theHaraz Roadand Valley for about 100 km, the Haraz river meanders in the midst ofAmol,from where it reaches the Caspian Sea. The Haraz begins inMount Damavandand flows northward and pours into Caspian Sea in the area between the two northern cities ofMahmoudabadandFereydunkenar.[1]The Haraz is currently contaminated due to discharge ofeffluentfrom variousindustrial plants.[2]

[edit]The Haraz River originates at the foot ofMount Damavand,one of the highest mountains in Asia.[3][4]From its mountain source, it flows down into the Haraz River Valley, into the city ofAmol,and onto itsRiver mouthin the southernCaspian Seabetween the towns ofFereydoon KenarinFereydunkenar CountyandMahmoudabadinMahmudabad County.
Haraz River Valley
[edit]Road 77 (Haraz Road)follows the river over the Hashem Pass and through the valley. It also provides access toLar National Park,and is the nearest road toMount Damavand.
