Hazleton Abbey

Hazleton Abbeywas an abbey atHazletoninGloucestershire,England.

It was formed in the 12th century.[1][2]Monks fromKingswood Abbeybought the land after King Stephen had confiscated it fromReginald de Waleric.Ownership was disputed and Reginald de Waleric was ordered to found aCistercian Abbeyby the Pope and allowed the monks to return. A shortage of water meant that they later moved toTetbury.It becamecrown landafter thedissolution of the monasteries.[3]

The former Abbey barn survives.[4]

Hazelton Manorwas built on the site in the 16th century.[5]
