General

[edit]

Valvuloplastyis the widening of astenotic valveusing aballoon catheter.Types include:[citation needed]

Valvulotomy

[edit]

Commissurotomyofheart valvesis called avalvulotomy.

By valve

[edit]

Mitral valve repair

[edit]

Mitral valve repairis mainly used to treatstenosis(narrowing) orregurgitation(leakage) of themitral valve.[citation needed]

Aortic valve repair

[edit]

Aortic valve repairis asurgical procedureused to correct someaortic valvedisorders as an alternative toaortic valve replacement.[1]Aortic valve repair is performed less often and is more technically difficult thanmitral valve repair. There are two surgical techniques of aortic-valve repair:

  • The Reimplantation-Technique (David-Procedure)
  • The Remodeling-Technique (Yacoub-Procedure)

Tricuspid valve repair

[edit]

Tricuspid valve repair is used to correcttricuspid regurgitation.[2]

History

[edit]

The first two percutaneous ultrasound-guided fetal balloon valvuloplasties, a type ofin uterosurgeryfor severeaortic valveobstruction, were reported in 1991.[3]
