Helen Catherine Anne Keogh(born 3 June 1951) is an Irish businesswoman, and formerFine Gaelpolitician who was Chief Executive ofWorld VisionIreland from 2003 until May 2018. She previously served as aSenatorfrom 1989 to 1992 and 1997 to 2002 and aTeachta Dála(TD) for theDún Laoghaireconstituency from 1992 to 1997.
A former teacher, guidance counsellor and businesswoman, Keogh was an unsuccessfulProgressive Democratscandidate at the1987 general election,the first election after the party was founded. She did not contest the1989 general electionbut wasnominated as a memberof the19th SeanadbyTaoiseachCharles Haughey.
She was elected toDáil Éireannas a Progressive DemocratsTDfor theDún Laoghaireconstituency at the1992 general election.[1]She lost her seat at the1997 general electiontoMonica Barnesof Fine Gael. She was then nominated by TaoiseachBertie Ahernto the21st Seanad.
She joinedFine Gaelin 2000 and unsuccessfully stood for election in both the2002 general electionand the 2002 Seanad election.[2]
She was elected toDún Laoghaire–Rathdown County Councilin 1991 and re-elected in 1999, serving until 2004. She ran unsuccessfully for the Seanad for theNational University of Irelandconstituency in 2011.
She was appointed chairperson of the board ofDóchas,the Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations, in 2006 and was elected for a second term of office in 2008.
