Hobro(Danish pronunciation:[hoˈpʁoˀ]) is an oldmarketandrailway towninRegion Nordjyllandon theJutlandpeninsula in northernDenmark.It has a population of 12,217 (1 January 2024).[2]The town is situated in a hilly terrain at the head ofMariager Fjord,close to the formerVikingfortress ofFyrkat.It is the seat ofMariagerfjord municipality.
Politics
[edit]Hobro was until 1 January 2007 also a municipality (Danish,kommune) inNorth Jutland Countycovering an area of 166 km2and with a total population of 15,318 (2005). Its last mayor was Jørgen Pontoppidan, a member of theVenstre(Liberal Party)political party.
Hobro municipality ceased to exist due toKommunalreformen( "The Municipality Reform" of 2007).It was merged withArden,Hadsund,andMariagermunicipalities to form the new Mariagerfjord municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 769 km2and a total population of 43,049 (2005). The new municipality belongs to Region Nordjylland ( "North Jutland Region" ).

[edit]Hobro is served byHobro railway station.It is located on theRanders-Aalborg railway lineand offers directInterCityservices toCopenhagenandAalborgandregional trainservices toAarhusandAalborg.
The stationwas initiated on15 June1893.The stations present facade was made simultaneously with the construction of the harbor line in1899-1901.The harbour line was then removed in1966.
