TheHydra Cluster(orAbell 1060) is agalaxy clusterthat contains 157 brightgalaxies, appearing in theconstellationHydra.[4]The cluster spans about ten millionlight-yearsand has an unusually high proportion ofdark matter.[5]The cluster is part of theHydra–Centaurus Superclusterlocated 158 million light-years fromEarth. The cluster's largest galaxies areelliptical galaxiesNGC 3309andNGC 3311and thespiral galaxyNGC 3312all having a diameter of about 150,000 light-years.[6] In spite of a nearly circular appearance on the sky, there is evidence in the galaxy velocities for a clumpy, three-dimensional distribution.[7]
