Iain Lawrence(born 1955)[1]is aCanadianauthor for children and young adults.[2]In 2007 he won aGovernor General's Literary Awardin Children's Literature forGemini Summer,[3]and in 2011, he was presented with theVicky Metcalf Award for Literature for Young People.[4]
Biography
[edit]Lawrence was born inSault Ste. Marie, Ontario,in 1955.[2]He has lived onGabriola Islandsince 2000.[2]Lawrence attendedLangara Collegein Vancouver studying journalism.[2]After school he worked for thePrince Rupert Daily Newsand other newspapers in northern British Columbia.[2]In his free time he wrote a number of unpublished children's fiction books, and was able to publish two non-fiction books about sailing, his hobby.[2]A Chicago agent encouraged him to concentrate on children's fiction so he reworked one of his earlier books,The Wrecker,and sold it to Random House in 1994.[2]Since then he has published many more books, in 2007 Random House reported he had sold more than one million books in North America.[2]
