Ian Whatesis a Britishspeculative fictionauthor and editor. In 2006 he launched the independentpublishing houseNewCon Press. He lives with his partner Helen in Cambridgeshire.

As of 2009 Whates is currently a director of both theScience Fiction Writers of America(SFWA)[1]and theBritish Science Fiction Association(BSFA).[2]He has had short fiction published inNature,HubandTQR.In 2007 his short storyThe Gift of Joywas nominated for theBritish Science Fiction Award.[3]Hisspace operanovel, Pelquin's Comet (The Dark Angels Book 1), was published in 2015.
