Verse 1

[edit]
Who is this that cometh from Edom,
with dyed garments fromBozrah?
this that is glorious in his apparel,
travelling in the greatness of his strength?
I that speak in righteousness,
mighty to save.[6]

Verse 16

[edit]
Doubtless thou art our father,
though Abraham be ignorant of us,
and Israel acknowledge us not:
thou, O Lord, art our father, our redeemer;
thy name is from everlasting.[10]

Neither of thepatriarchs,"Abraham"or" Israel "(meaningJacob), would recognise the Israel addressed by the prophet; descent from them cannot guarantee the nation any protection.[11]
