Lieutenant GeneralSir James WatsonKCB(1772 – 14 August 1862) was a British Army officer andCommander-in-Chief, India.

Military career[edit]

Watson wascommissionedinto the14th Regiment of Footreaching the rank ofmajorin 1802.[1]He was appointedcommanding officerof the 1st Battalion of his regiment in 1807 and served inIndiaandBatavia.[1]

In March 1835 he was appointedCommander-in-Chief, Indiaand continued in that role until September; two years later he was promoted tolieutenant general[2]and madecolonelof the14th Foot,a position he held until his death.[1]

He was also an active member of theArmy and Navy Club.[3]He lived inWendoverinBuckinghamshire.[4]

He died in 1862. He had married Sarah, with whom he had at least a son and a daughter.[5]
