Janet L. Duprey(born November 27, 1945)[1]is a formerRepublicanmember of theNew York State Assembly,representing Assembly District 115, which includes all ofClintonandFranklinCounties, as well as part ofSt. Lawrence County.[2]She is originally fromPlattsburgh.

Duprey was first elected to the Assembly on November 7, 2006.[2]She ran uncontested in the November 2008general election[3][4]

She won the 2010 Republicanprimary electionrunning against David Kimmel, a small business owner.[5]She then faced Rudy Johnson, a former energy analyst and small businessman, in thegeneral election,[6][7]which she won with 59 percent of the vote.[8][9]Duprey did not seek re-election in 2016.

Positions[edit]

Duprey supports gay and lesbian rights and voted in favor of a bill to introduce same sex marriage in New York State.[10][11][12]

Duprey sponsored a resolution to create a day of awareness for individuals diagnosed withAsperger syndrome.[13]

Duprey was a vocal supporter ofDede Scozzafavaduring the 2009 special election inNew York's 23rd congressional district.[14][15]

In 2013, Duprey was a signatory to an amicus curiae brief submitted to the Supreme Court in support of same-sex marriage during theHollingsworth v. Perrycase.[16]

Duprey and her husband Elmer have two grown children, John and Michelle.[2]
