Jim Main

Jim Main(12 March 1943 – 8 August 2022[1][2][3]) was an Australiansports journalistand writer. He is known especially for his coverage ofAustralian rules football,especially his bookMore Than a Century of AFL Grand Finals(2001–2005), some editions of which he co-authored withRohan Connolly.

He studied law at theUniversity of Melbourneand later graduated fromLa Trobe Universitywith a bachelor of arts degree. Main worked at the MelbourneHeraldand later onLondon'sDaily Express.He was later sports editor ofThe Australianfor more than 10 years.

He covered severalCommonwealth GamesandOlympic Gamesand won aWalkley Awardfor his coverage of the1970 Commonwealth Gamesin Edinburgh.

Main was inducted into theMelbourne Cricket GroundMedia Hall of Fame in 2003.

He has published more than 60 books and has co-written books with David Allen,Eddie McGuireandJim Stynes.[4] [5] He was also a notable supporter and historian of theSydney Swans.[6]
