John Chu(Chinese:Chu trung nghi) is aTaiwanese Americanmicroprocessor architect,science fictionwriter andliterary translator.

Life and career[edit]

Chu was born inTaiwan,moved to the US and began learning English at age six.[1]He read voraciously as a child and was inspired to write science fiction by the works ofTed Chiang.He has attended theViable ParadiseandClarionscience fiction & fantasy writing workshops.[1]He has aPhDincomputer engineering[2]and is gay,[3]a theme that he explores in his writing.[1]

In 2014 Chu won theHugo Award for Best Short Storywith the storyThe Water That Falls on You from Nowhere.[4]In 2023,If You Find Yourself Speaking to God, Address God with the Informal Youwon theLocus Awardfor Best Novelette.[5]Chu also reads for podcasts and translates novels and stories from Chinese into English.[1][3]
