John Otis Honnold Jr.(December 5, 1915 – January 21, 2011) was the William A. Schnader Professor of Commercial Law at theUniversity of Pennsylvania Law School.

Biography

Honnold was born inKansas, Illinois,to John Otis and Louretta (Wright) Honnold, and lived inSwarthmore, Pennsylvania,andKennett Square, Pennsylvania.[1][2]

He graduated fromParis High Schoolin Illinois.[2]Honnold then earned a bachelor's degree in economics and government from theUniversity of Illinoisin 1936, and a law degree fromHarvard Law Schoolin 1939, where he was an editor of theHarvard Law Review.[1][2]He was awarded aFulbright Senior Research Scholarshipaward, aGuggenheim Fellowship,and the Theberge Prize for Private International Law.[1]

Honnold worked at theSecurities and Exchange Commissionfor five years.[1][2]During World War II he worked as chief of the Court Review Branch in the Chief Counsel'sOffice of Price Administration.He began his career in private practice at a New York law firm, Wright, Gordon, Zachry & Parlin.[1]

Honnold was the William A. Schnader Professor of Commercial Law at theUniversity of Pennsylvania Law School,after joining the school's faculty in 1946.[1]His academic focus wasprivate international law.[1]

His writings includedSales Transactions: Domestic and International Law(withCurtis Reitz) andSecurity Interests in Personal Property(with Steven Harris andCharles W. Mooney Jr.).[1]

Honnold died on January 21, 2011, at 95 years of age.[1]
