John E. Spiegelwas anAmerican footballplayer, coach of football andbasketball,and college athletics administrator. A native ofDetroit, Michigan,Spiegel played at thehalfbackposition forWashington & Jefferson Collegefrom 1913 to 1914. He was selected as a second-team All-American in 1913 and was the leading scorer in college football.[1]In 1914, he was a consensus first-team All-American.[2][3][4]From 1915 to 1916, Spiegel was the football coach, basketball coach, and athletic director at theUniversity of Chattanooga.[5][6]AfterWorld War I,Spiegel coached atMuhlenberg Collegefrom 1921 to 1922.
