Justin Haythe(born September 16, 1973) is an Americannovelist,short storywriter, andscreenwriter.He is best known for his bookThe Honeymoon,and the screenplay forRevolutionary Road (film),directed by Sam Mendes.
Haythe lives inNew York City.
Early life and literary debut
[edit]Born inLondon,Haythe is a graduate ofThe American School in LondonandMiddlebury College.He earned hisMFAfromSarah Lawrence College.His first short story was published by Harper's Magazine. Hisdebut novel,The Honeymoon,was longlisted for the 2004Man Booker Prize.Haythe has plans to write another novel.
Screenwriting career
[edit]Haythe wrote the screenplay of the20th Century FoxthrillerThe Clearing.The film was released on July 2, 2004, directed byPieter Jan Brugge,and starred Helen Mirren and Robert Redford. Afterwards, Haythe wrote the screenplay toRevolutionary Road,starringLeonardo DiCaprio,Kate WinsletandKathy Bates,and based on the popular 1961book of the same namebyRichard Yates.The film was released on December 26, 2008 and was nominated for aUSC Scripter Awardas well as aBAFTA Award for Best Adapted Screenplay[1]
After, Haythe was a co-writer and executive producer ofSnitch,a 2013 action-thriller film starringDwayne Johnson.The project was first set up in 2004 by Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, partners at Spitfire Pictures. They were inspired by a Frontline documentary about how changes to the federal drug policy of the United States encouraged the incarcerated to snitch on their accomplices.[2]Haythe also helped rewriteThe Lone Ranger,a 2013 Disney/Bruckheimer-produced re-imagining of theiconic radio character,starringArmie HammerandJohnny Depp.[3]The script was originally written byPirates of the CaribbeanandShrekscribesTerry RossioandTed Elliot,and had more of a supernatural element with werewolves and "ghost coyotes", which was ultimately toned down in the finished film.[4]
Haythe reunited withLone RangerdirectorGore Verbinskito writeA Cure for Wellness,a 2016science fictionpsychological horrorthriller film.[5]He wrote a draft of the Queen musical biopicBohemian Rhapsody.He wrote the Cold War spy thrillerRed Sparrow,released in 2018, starring Jennifer Lawrence, and did rewrites onMorbius.
In 2022, Haythe created the period television dramaThe Serpent Queen,centering on the life and political schemes ofCatherine de' Medici,for Starz. It got renewed for a second season on October 27, 2022.[6]
