Keith"K. K."Barrett(born 1952)[1]is an Americanproduction designerknown for his work on feature films bySpike JonzeandSofia Coppola,among others.

Early life

Barrett was born inOmaha,Nebraska. He lived inSpringfield,Missouri andOklahoma City,Oklahoma, before moving toTulsa,Oklahoma. There, he spent his last two years of high school, and graduated fromMemorial High Schoolin 1971. He studied painting atOklahoma State University,graduating in 1976. He lived in New York and in Los Angeles, where he was a drummer forThe Screamers,anelectropunkband.[1][2]He appears in the 1986 punk rock musicalPopulation: 1.

Career

Barrett moved into production design on music videos (winningMTVawards for his work on "Tonight, Tonight"bySmashing Pumpkinsand "The New Pollution"byBeck), and worked on videos with Spike Jonze, leading to their first film collaboration onBeing John Malkovich.[1]Together with set decoratorGene Serdena,he was nominated for theAcademy Award for Best Production Designfor the filmHer(2013).
