According to the map of Suti II CD block in theDistrict Census Handbook, Murshidabad,Dafahat,Jagtaj,Debipur,Aurangabad,Hafania,Mahendrapur,Paschim Punropara,Bhabki,Khidirpur,Khanpur,Ichhlampur,Chakmeghoanand Kakramari, form a cluster of census towns.[1]
Area overview
[edit]Jangipur subdivision is crowded with 52census townsand as such it had to be presented in two location maps. One of the maps can be seen alongside. The subdivision is located in theRarh regionthat is spread over the adjoiningSanthal Pargana divisionofJharkhand.The land is slightly higher in altitude than the surrounding plains and is gently undulating.[2][3]The riverGanges,along with its distributaries, is prominent in both the maps. At the head of the subdivision is the 2,245 m longFarakka Barrage,one of the largest projects of its kind in the country.[4]Murshidabad district shares with Bangladesh a porous international border which is notoriously crime prone (partly shown in this map).[5]The subdivision has two large power plants - the 2,100 MWFarakka Super Thermal Power Stationand the 1,600 MWSagardighi Thermal Power Station.[6][7]According to a 2016 report, there are around 1,000,000 (1 million/ ten lakh) workers engaged in thebeediindustry in Jangipur subdivision. 90% are home-based and 70% of the home-based workers are women.[8][9][10]As of 2013, an estimated 2.4 million people reside along the banks of theGangesalone in Murshidabad district.Severe erosionoccurs along the banks.[11]

Demographics
[edit]According to the2011 Census of India,Kakramari had a total population of 9,423, of which 4,787 (51%) were males and 4,636 (49%) were females. Population in the age range 0–6 years was 1,950. The total number of literate persons in Kakramari was 3,991 (53.41% of the population over 6 years).[12]
Infrastructure
[edit]According to theDistrict Census Handbook, Murshidabad,2011, Kakramari covered an area of 1.4843 km2.It had 8 km roads. The protected water-supply involved hand pump. It had 138 domestic electric connections. Among the medical facilities it had 2 medicine shops. Among the educational facilities, it had 2 primary schools, other school facilities at nearby localities, general degree college atAurangabad10 km away.[13]
Healthcare
[edit]Suti II CD block is one of the areas of Murshidabad district where ground water is affected by a high level ofarsenic contamination.TheWHOguideline for arsenic in drinking water is 10 mg/ litre, and the Indian Standard value is 50 mg/ litre. The maximum concentration in Suti II CD block is 1,852 mg/litre.[14]
