Kalungu Districtis adistrictinCentral Uganda.It is named after the main town of the district,Kalungu,where the district headquarters are located.

[edit]Kalungu District is bordered byGomba Districtto the north,Butambala Districtto the north-east,Mpigi Districtto the east,Masaka Districtto the south, andBukomansimbi Districtto the west. The district headquarters,Kalungu,are 21 kilometres (13 mi), by road, north-east of the city ofMasaka,the largest metropolitan area in the sub-region.[1]
Overview
[edit]Kalungu District was created by an Act of Parliament, carved fromMasaka District.[2]The district began functioning on 1 July 2010.[3]
Population
[edit]In 1991, the national census estimated the district population at 152,030. The 2002 national census put the population at approximately 160,700. As of July 2012, the population was estimated at 177,200.[4]
