Kameron Hurleyis an Americanscience fictionandfantasywriter.[1]
Biography[edit]
Hurley was born inWashington stateand has lived inFairbanks, Alaska,Durban, South Africa,andChicago.She currently resides inDayton, Ohio.[2][3]
Hurley has been publishing short fiction since 1998[4]and novels since 2011.[5]From 2013 to 2021 Hurley wrote regular columns forLocusmagazine about the craft and business of fiction writing[6]and has published non-fiction pieces inThe Atlantic,Boing Boing,Entertainment Weekly,Bitch (magazine),Tor,Uncanny Magazine,HuffPost,The Mary Sue,Female First,Writer's Digest,andLA Weekly.[7]Hurley is a graduate ofClarion West.[8]
Her first novel trilogy, theBel Dame Apocrypha,is what Hurley called "bugpunk":[9]set on a far-future desert planet whose technology is based on insects and whose matriarchal, Islam-inspired cultures are locked in perpetual war. Her second trilogy, theWorldbreaker Saga,isgrimdarkepic fantasythat aims to subvert the genre's tropes such as thehero's journey.[10]She has also published a standalonespace operanovel,The Stars are Legion,in 2017,[11]and themilitary science fictiontime travelnovel,The Light Brigade,in 2019.[12]
Her first nonfiction book, the essay collectionThe Geek Feminist Revolution,was published in 2016.[13]
