Kathryn Reilly(born 17 September 1988) is anIrishSinn Féinpolitician and former member ofSeanad Éireann.[1]

Early life and education[edit]

Reilly grew up inBallyjamesduff,County Cavan.[2]She has a degree in economics fromDublin City University,[2]and a master's degree in European economic and public affairs fromUniversity College Dublin.[3]She previously worked as a parliamentary assistant to former Sinn FéinTDArthur Morgan.[4]

Political career[edit]

Reilly entered politics for election toDáil Éireannin theCavan–Monaghanconstituency at the2011 general election,but was not elected.[5]In April 2011 she was elected toSeanad Éireannon theIndustrial and Commercial Panel.[5]

She was the youngest member of theOireachtasin 2011; having been elected at age 22, and she is the youngest ever elected member of the Seanad.[6]

She was again an unsuccessful candidate in theCavan–Monaghanconstituency at the2016 general election.[7]

In March 2016, she confirmed her intention not to run for re-election to the Seanad,[8]saying she felt "cast aside" by the party.[9]
