Early life and education[edit]

Originally fromCastlereainCounty Roscommon,Swanick and his wife run a GP Practice inBelmulletin theErrisregion of North Mayo. He is also the Secretary of the National Association of Irish General Practitioners.[3]

Career[edit]

He was chosen as a candidate for Fianna Fáil in a Seanad by-election after the retirement ofJimmy Harte,which was won by Labour'sMáiría Cahill.[4]He initially considered contesting the2016 general electionin theRoscommon-Galwayconstituency but declined.[5]

He was the Fianna Fáil Seanad Spokesperson on Health and Mental Health.[citation needed]

He did not contest the2020 Seanad election,after being involved in anOireachtasexpenses controversy.[6]
