Ketti Frings(28 February 1909 – 11 February 1981) was an Americanwriter,playwright,andscreenwriterwho won aPulitzer Prizein 1958.

Early years[edit]

BornKatherine HartleyinColumbus, Ohio,Frings attendedPrincipia College,began her career as a copywriter, and went on to work as a feature writer forUnited Press International.

Career[edit]

In 1941 her novelHold Back the Dawnwas adapted for the screen. Theresulting moviewas directed byMitchell Leisenand starredOlivia de HavillandandCharles Boyer.She wrote her firstBroadwayplay,Mr. Sycamore,in 1942. The play featuredLillian GishandStuart Erwinin the lead roles.

Her Hollywood screenplays includeGuest in the House(1944),The File on Thelma Jordon(1950),Come Back, Little Sheba(1952),About Mrs. Leslie(1954),The Shrike(1955), andFoxfire(1955).

Frings adapted theThomas WolfenovelLook Homeward, Angelinto aplay of the same namethat opened on Broadway in 1957 and ran for 564 performances at theEthel Barrymore Theatre.It received sixTony Awardnominations[1]and Frings won the annualPulitzer Prize for Dramain 1958.[2]She was named "Woman of the Year" byThe Los Angeles Timesin the same year.

Personal life[edit]

Frings was married to film agent Kurt Frings from 1938 to October 31, 1958.[3]The couple had two children, Kathie and Peter. She died of cancer in Los Angeles.
