Khaled Ghorbal

Khaled Ghorbal(born 1950 inSfax) is a Tunisian filmmaker and screenwriter.[1][2][3]

Biography and career

Ghorbal studied at the Dramatic Art Center ofTunis.He arrived inFrancein 1970 to complete his theatrical training, at the International University of Theatre in Paris, at theUniversity of Paris VIIIand then at the Jacques Lecoq Mime School Mouvement Théâtre.[4][5]He launched his career as an actor, then as a theater director. For nearly ten years, he programmed and directed twoart house theatersin the Paris region.[6][7]

In 1996, he directedEl Mokhtar (The Chosen One),his first short fiction film, addressing the issue offundamentalismand the brainwashing of youth. The film was selected in many international festivals. In 1999 he left forTunisiato shootFatma,his first feature film.[8]The film premiered atCannesand won a number of prizes, notably at the FESPACO.[9][10]
