Kirovsk–Apatity Airport(Russian:Аэропорт Кировск/Апатиты), also known asKhibiny AirportorHibiny Airport(Russian:Аэропорт Хибины) (IATA:KVK) is a mixed military/civilianairportinApatity,Murmansk Oblast,Russia.It is located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) southeast of Apatity.

Kirovsk–Apatity Airport was officially opened in 1994, developed on a formerSoviet Air Force/Russian Air Forceairfield with a singletarmacarea that hosted the227th Independent Helicopter SquadronflyingMi-8helicopters between 1992 and 2000[3]and the88th Independent Helicopter Squadronbetween 1977 and 1994.[4]Both were part of theSoviet Ground Forces.The airfield was revamped to serve the towns of Apatity andKirovskfor civilian use, and in 1994 began operating flights toSheremetyevo Airport.Currently,[when?]Kirovsk–Apatity Airport handles medium-sizedairlinersfordomestic flightsto several cities inNorthwest Russia,with intentions to be developed into aninternational airport.
