Kyline Nicole Aquino Alcantara Manga(Tagalog:[kɐjˈlinʔɐlˌkaːn.tɐˈɾa];born September 3, 2002) is a Filipino actress and singer. She began her career as a child actress after finishing top ten in the talent search programStar Circle Quest.[1]She is best known for her roles inKambal, Karibal(2017) andBilangin ang Bituin sa Langit(2020). Her accolades include aStar Award for Televisionand aBox Office Entertainment Award,in addition to nominations for anAwit AwardandAsian Academy Creative Awards.

Early life

Kyline Nicole Aquino Alcantara Manga,[a]the youngest of three siblings,[4]was born on September 3, 2002,[5]inOcampo, Camarines Sur,Philippines. Her parents got separated when Alcantara was four before her parents reconciled 10 years later. Alcantara attendedSaint Francis of Assisi Collegefor herprimary educationand later attended Academy of Christian Excellence Montessori for two years of high school before moving into Exodus Elementary School.[6]Drawn to theArmed Forces of the Philippines' strength, Alcantara said she wanted to enlist in the military, a job they did not offer.[7]At age seven, she gained attention fromshow businessinstead after participating in theatrical plays. Before auditioning as a cast member inGoin' Bulilit(2005–2009), Alcantara's family traveled toABS-CBN Broadcasting CenterinDiliman, Quezon City,where they arrived too late and noticed auditions had ended.[6]

2010–2020: Early roles and breakthrough

Alcantara made her television debut in the 2010 talent showStar Circle Quest: Search for the Next Kiddie Superstars,in which she qualified to the top ten before being the first contestant to be eliminated from the show. In 2013, Alcantara costarred oppositeAndrea Brillantesin the remake ofGMA Network'sAnna Liza(1980–1985), titledAnnaliza.At her audition for the show, she immediately secured the villainous role. In a 2020 retrospective, Alcantara said her craftsmanship influenced the show, having acting lessons from costarsZanjoe Marudo,Kaye Abad,Denise Laurel,and directorTheodore Boborol.Her next supporting roles were Jessa Boborol inPangako Sa 'Yo(2015–2016) and Chloe inBorn for You(2016). Alcantara made her cinema debut with minor roles in 2015 filmsHamogandEtiquette for Mistresses.[6]

Alcantara’s breakthrough in her career happened when she appeared as Cheska De Villa, a villain, in the television seriesKambal, Karibal(2017–2018).[8][9]She initially auditioned for either of her minor or supporting roles in the series,[7][10]especially that of a younger version of Teresa (Jean Garcia).[8]When GMA Network executives discovered that Alcantara's acting was decent, they convinced her to return for her different role.[10]Her costars in the series, includingBianca Umali,Miguel Tanfelix,Pauline Mendoza,andJeric Gonzales,presented her with new acting experiences.[8]Alcantara's performance, which won her aPMPC Star Award for Television[11][12]and received her anAsian Academy Creative Awardnomination,[13][14]was lauded by viewers[8]and proved to be her breakthrough role.[15][16][17]

Alcantara cohosted two variety shows in 2018:Sunday PinaSayaandStudio 7,[6]and released her debut albumKylinethat September.[18]In 2019, she portrayed Anna Sevilla / Elsa Dela Cruz,[19]the daughter of Edward Sevilla (Marvin Agustin) and Belinda Lopez (Sunshine Dizon) who was previously suffered from amnesia,[20][21]in the musical seriesInagaw na Bituin.In preparation, Alcantara read scripts that were inherent and watched videos about acting.[19]Her next film role was in Julius Alfonso'sBlack Lipstick(2019) alongsideMigo Adecer,Manolo Pedrosa, andKate Valdez.[22]Rapplercritic Oggs Cruz criticized the film's complicated, unfocused scope, describing it as "old-fashioned".[23]Alcantara made a part in the variety showAll-Out Sundayssince 2020.[24]Bilangin ang Bituin sa Langitwas her next project that year.[6]

2021–present: Transition to mature roles

Alcantara appeared in three television series in 2021. She had a guest role in an episode of the anthology seriesMagpakailanmanas aOverseas Filipino Workerwho was imprisoned for rape. Transitioning to mature roles was new to Alcantara, given "how strong of a woman she is".[25]She received a PMPC Star Award forBest Single Performance by an Actressnomination.[26][27]Alcantara starred in the installment#Futureof the anthologyI Can See You,in which she played a depressive and Enigma tic woman.[28]I Left My Heart in Sorsogon,a romantic drama, was her final series that year.[29]

Public image and personal life

Alcantara had difficulties withacne,missing roles, her family life, finances, and rejection from auditions.[2][6]She is an ambassador for companiesConverse[31]andEver Bilena,[32]and agenciesSOS Children's Villages[33][34]and theKorea Tourism Organization(KTO). Alcantara's purpose of the KTO is to maintain South Korea a "top-of-mind tourist destination for Filipinos".[35]She began a relationship with actorMavy Legaspiin 2021.[36]On February 26, 2024,Dasuri Choidenied claims and rumors linking her to theMavy Legaspiand Alcantara's breakup.[37]

On April 16, 2024,Darren EspantotoldBoy AbundainFast Talk with Boy Abundathat he had a one year "puppy love"for Alcantara.[38]

In June, Alcantara confirmeddinnerdatingwithKobe ParasatBally'Rustan's.[39]
