Laviana(Asturian:Llaviana) is a municipality in theAutonomous Communityof thePrincipality of Asturias,located inSpain.It is bordered on the north byBimenesandNava,on the south byAller,on the east byPiloñaandSobrescobio,and on the west bySan Martín del Rey AurelioandMieres.
Situated in the basin of theRio Nalon,it is a terminal for theFC de Langreorailway, now subsumed byFEVE,which connects it to the port ofGijón.
Economy
[edit]Mining, agriculture and stock-rearing have been the principal industries since the early 20th century.
History
[edit]Almost everywhere in Asturia you find Prehistorian Signs, also in the region Laviana. SomeHill FortsandDolmenmade in theBronze Ageand in theIron Ageare still visitable (Castro de El Cercu, El Prau in Castiello and La Corona in Boroñes).
Also the Romans built some Bridges along the Rio Nalon Street which are used today.
The nameFlavianawas written down first time, in 1115 when the area was bordered to theMonastery"San Vicente deOviedo".
During thePeninsular Warand theCarlismrevolution, Laviana was the area for some famous battles.
