InGreek mythology,Leucippe(Ancient Greek:Λευκίππηmeans 'white horse'[1]) is the name of the following individuals:
- Leucippe, one of the 3,000Oceanids,water-nymphdaughters of theTitansOceanusand his sister-spouseTethys.[1]Leucippe, along with her sisters, was one of the companions ofPersephonewhen the maiden was abducted byHades,the god of theUnderworld.[2]
- Leucippe, one of theMinyades,daughter of KingMinyasofOrchomenus.[3]
- Leucippe, the wife of KingThestiusofPleuronand mother ofIphiclusandAlthaea.[4]
- Leucippe, a queen ofTroyas the wife ofIlus,founder ofIlium.By him, she became the mother ofLaomedon[5]and possibly,Themiste,[6]Telecleia[7]andTithonus.In some accounts, the wife of Ilus was calledEurydice,daughter ofAdrastusorBatia,daughter ofTeucer.[8]
- Leucippe, another Trojan queen as the wife of KingLaomedon.[9]According to the mythographerApollodorus,she and Laomedon had five sons, Tithonus,Lampus,Clytius,Hicetaon,andPriam,[9]and three daughters,Hesione,CillaandAstyoche.Otherwise the wife of Laomedon was identified asStrymo,daughter ofScamanderorPlacia,daughter ofOtreus[10]orZeuxippe.[11]
- Leucippe, a daughter ofThestorand possiblyPolymele,[12]and thus, sister ofTheonoe,CalchasandTheoclymenus.[13]She became a priestess ofApolloand went from country to country in search of her father, Thestor and sister Theonoe who was stolen by pirates.[14]
- Leucippe, mother of Egyptian king, Aegyptus byHephaestus.[15]
- Leucippe, mother ofTeuthrastheMysianking. Her son killed a sacred boar ofArtemisduring hunt and was driven mad by the angry goddess. Lysippe then went out in the woods, seeking to find out what had happened to her son. Eventually she learned about the goddess' wrath from the seerPolyidus;she then sacrificed to the goddess to propitiate her, and Teuthras' sanity was restored.[16]
