TheLinnean Tercentenary Medalwas commissioned in 2007 by theLinnean Societyto commemorate the tercentenary of the birth ofCarl Linnaeus.Recipients were in two categories: Silver Medal and Bronze Medal, for outstanding contributions to natural history.[1]
The front of the medal features an illustration by Linnaeus ofAndromeda (mythology)next to one of the plant he namedAndromeda,from his 1732expedition to Laplandand on the back, a spiral design made from illustrations taken fromSystema Naturae.[2]
