Lisa Lou Banes(July 9, 1955 – June 14, 2021) was an American actress known for more than 80 film and television roles, as well as stage appearances on Broadway and elsewhere.
Banes won a 1981Theatre World Awardfor her performance as Alison PorterOff-BroadwayinLook Back in Angerand, in 1984, was nominated for aDrama Desk Awardfor Best Featured Actress in a Play forIsn't it Romantic?.[1]She played Lady Croom in the 1995 American premiere ofTom Stoppard's playArcadia.[2]In film, she appeared inCocktail(1988),Freedom Writers(2007),Gone Girl(2014), and as Hollis inA Cure for Wellness(2016).

Banes appeared on Broadway several times. She played Cassie in theNeil SimonplayRumorsin 1988 withChristine Baranski,Margaret Lord in the musicalHigh SocietywithAnna Kendrickin 1998, was inAccent on YouthwithDavid Hyde Piercein 2009, and most recently in the 2010 revival ofPresent LaughterwithVictor Garber.

On television, Banes had regular roles as Doreen Morrison inThe Trials of Rosie O'NeillstarringSharon Gless,and as Mayor Anita Massengil on the Fox comedy seriesSon of the Beach(2000–01).[3]She also had recurring roles onThe King of Queensas Carrie's Boss Georgia Boone,Six Feet Underas Victoria, onOne Life to LiveasEve McBain,and onNashvilleSeason 6 as the Ranch Director. She also guest starred as aTrilldoctor in theStar Trek: Deep Space Nineepisode "Equilibrium".Banes played Anne Kane in the 1985 TV miniseriesKane & Abel.Her other television credits includeChina Beach;Murder, She Wrote;The Practice;NYPD Blue;Desperate Housewives;Law & Order: Special Victims Unit;The Good Wife;NCIS;andOnce Upon a Time.From 2010 to 2016, she had a recurring role as Ellen Collins onRoyal Pains.
Banes also starred as Mrs. Berry inThe Hotel New Hampshire(1984), Bonnie inCocktail(1988), Flora inDragonfly(2002), andChristina Ricci's mother inPumpkin(2002). In 2014, she appeared inDavid Fincher'sGone Girlas Marybeth Elliott, mother of Amy Elliott (Rosamund Pike).

Banes lived in Los Angeles. She was married to Kathryn Kranhold.[4]
Death[edit]
On June 4, 2021, Banes was in a marked crosswalk onAmsterdam Avenueapproaching her destination, theJuilliard School,when she was struck by a person operating anelectric scooter.The scooter rider, who had gone through a red light, fled the scene of thehit and runcollision on theUpper West SideofManhattan.[5]Banes was admitted toMount Sinai MorningsideHospital with a traumatic brain injury[4][6]and died there on June 14 at the age of 65.[3][7]The suspect immediately drove 4 miles (6.4 km) to anUpper Manhattanshop to get his vehicle fixed.[5]
On August 5, 2021, police arrested 26-year old Brian Boyd at his apartment in theAmsterdam Houses,near where he ran down Banes. He was jailed on a bail of $30,000 cash or $100,000 bond. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.[5]On September 28, 2022, Boyd pleaded guilty to manslaughter;[8]on November 30, 2022, he was sentenced to up to three years in prison.[9]
