Locmaria(French pronunciation:[lɔkmaʁja];Breton:Lokmaria-ar-Gerveur) is acommunein theMorbihandepartmentinBrittanyin north-westernFrance.[3]Locmaria is one of the four communes ofBelle Île.
Toponymy
[edit]From the Bretonlocwhich meanshermitage(cf.:Locminé) and 'maria' which derive fromMary.
Demographics
[edit]Inhabitants of Locmaria are called in FrenchLocmariaïstes.
Geography
[edit]The village occupies the eastern part of the islandBelle-Île-en-Mer.Rocky cliffs, sometimes 50 meters high, surround the territory. On the north coast, stretches the beach Les Grands Sables.
