Alocule(pl.:locules) orloculus(Latinfor 'little place';pl.:loculi) is a small cavity[1]or compartment within anorganor part of anorganism(animal,plant,orfungus).

In angiosperms (flowering plants), the termloculeusually refers to a chamber within anovary(gynoeciumorcarpel) of theflowerandfruits.Depending on the number of locules in the ovary, fruits can be classified asunilocular(uni-locular),bilocular,trilocular,ormultilocular.The number of locules present in a gynoecium may be equal to or less than the number of carpels. The locules contain theovulesorseeds.

The term may also refer to chambers withinantherscontainingpollen.[2]

Inascomycetousfungi, locules are chambers within thehymeniumin which theperitheciadevelop.[3]
