Lolita Davidovich(bornLolita Davidović;July 15, 1961)[1]is a Canadian film and television actress, best known for portrayingBlaze Starrin the 1989 filmBlaze,for which she received aChicago Film Critics Association Awardnomination.

She later had starring roles in films includingLeap of Faith(1992),Raising Cain(1992),Intersection(1994),Cobb(1994),Jungle 2 Jungle(1997),Gods and Monsters(1998),Mystery, Alaska(1999), andPlay It to the Bone(1999).

Early life[edit]

Davidovich was born inLondon, Ontario,the daughter of emigrants from the formerYugoslavia.Her father was fromBelgrade(the capital ofSerbia), and her mother was fromSlovenia.[2][3]She spoke onlySerbianduring her early years.[4]

She studied at theHerbert Berghof Studioin New York.[5]

Career[edit]

Davidovich began her career playing small parts on television and films. She first received notice co-starring in comedy-drama filmBlazewithPaul Newman,for which she beat out 600 other actresses for the title role of theburlesqueperformer Blaze Starr.[6]

She later starred alongsideJohn MalkovichandAndie MacDowellin 1991 filmThe Object of Beauty,before earning critical acclaim for her leading performance as an inmate in theHBOdramaPrison Stories: Women on the Inside.[7]Davidovich went on to leading roles in films such as the 1992 thrillerRaising Caindirected byBrian De Palma,and the dramaLeap of Faith,co-starringSteve MartinandLiam Neeson.

She played the love interest ofRichard Gerein the 1994 dramaIntersection.After starring for directorRon SheltoninBlaze,she also was featured in his filmsCobb,Play It to the Bone,Dark Blue,Hollywood Homicide,and in theOliver StonefilmJFK.Davidovich also receivedTokyo International Film Festival Award for Best ActressforYounger and Younger,and during 1990s had roles in filmsBoiling Point,For Better or Worse,Now and Then,Jungle 2 Jungle,Gods and MonstersandMystery, Alaska.[8]

In 2000s, Davidovich had supporting roles on both film and television. She appeared in several episodes on the first season of theShowtimelesbian-themed drama series,The L Wordplaying the character Francesca Wolff, and has guest-starred onCSI: Crime Scene Investigation,Criminal Minds,Rizzoli & Isles,Curb Your Enthusiasm,andNCIS.Davidovich voiced Jester in theadventurevideo gameChronomaster,which also includes the voices of actorsRon PerlmanandBrent Spiner.[9]She also voiced Angel Gemini in the adventure game,Of Light and Darkness: The Prophecy,which also includes the voice of actorJames Woods.[10]

In 2015, Davidovich made her return to film playing the role of lead character's mother in the romantic dramaThe Longest Ridebased onNicholas Sparks' novel.[11]Later that year, she was cast in the second season of HBO crime dramaTrue DetectiveasTaylor Kitsch's character's mother,[12]and ABC prime time soap operaBlood & OilasDon Johnson's character's ex-wife.[13]

Davidovich is married to screenwriter and directorRon Shelton,who has directed Davidovich in several films, includingBlaze,Dark Blue,andHollywood Homicide.They have two children and reside inOjai, California.[5]
