In February 2019, it was announcedPablo SchreiberandJena Malonehad joined the cast of the film, with Sabrina Doyle directing from a screenplay she wrote. Filming took place in and aroundPortland, Oregon.[4]

Release

The film had its world premiere on September 9, 2020 at theDeauville American Film Festival,[5][6]where a jury presided over byVanessa Paradisawarded it the Jury Prize.[7]It was previously set to have its world premiere at theTribeca Film Festivalin April 2020, but this was postponed due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.[8][9]The film subsequently got invited back to the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, screening outdoors in Manhattan as part of the 20th anniversary edition of the festival.[10]During its festival run, Lorelei also picked up Audience and Jury Awards at theInternational Filmfestival Mannheim-Heidelberg[11]and the Jordan Ressler First Feature Award at theMiami International Film Festival.[12]In March 2021,Vertical Entertainmentacquired U.S. distribution rights to the film.[13]It was released on July 30, 2021.[14]
