Louis M. Kunkel

Louis Martens Kunkel(born October 13, 1949) is an Americangeneticistand member of theNational Academy of Sciences(NAS). His father (Henry G. Kunkel) and grandfather (Louis O. Kunkel) were also scientists and NAS members.[1]Kunkel came from a Lutheran background and attended Lutheran schools in youth. He later graduated fromGettysburg Collegein 1971.[2]He obtained his PhD fromJohns Hopkins University.[3]He is noted for discoveringdystrophin,[4][5]which is relevant tomuscular dystrophyresearch.[6]
