Lubna Azabal(born 15 August 1973) is a Belgian actress.

Career

Azabal was born on 15 August 1973 inBrusselsto aMoroccanfather and aSpanishmother.[1]

After studying at theRoyal Conservatory of Brussels,she began a theatrical career in Belgium. In 1997, she took her first film role when Belgian film-makerVincent Lannoochose her to act besideOlivier Gourmetin his short filmJ'adore le cinéma.[citation needed]She performs in English, French and Arabic. She was raisedtrilingual(French, Spanish andBerber).[1]

Her most widely known film role is in the 2005 politicalthriller,Paradise Now.She appears in a smaller role inRidley Scott'sBody of Lies.She has a lead part alongsideMaggie GyllenhaalinHugo Blick's 2014 BBC TV miniseriesThe Honourable Woman.

Azabal won the Black Pearl Award 2010 (Abu Dhabi Film Festival) for Best Actress for her role in the filmIncendies.[2]She also won theGenie Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Roleat the31st Genie Awardsand theMagritte Award for Best Actressat the2nd Magritte Awards.[3]She starred oppositeBen Fosterin the independent filmHere(2011).

In 2018, Azabal appeared as Susannah inHelen Edmundson's filmMary Magdalene.[4]
