Ludim(Hebrew:לודים,romanized:Lūḏîm) is theHebrewterm for a people mentioned inJeremiahandEzekiel. In theBiblicalTable of NationsGenesis 10:13 they were descended fromMizraim. The biblical scholar Victor P. Hamilton believes that the available evidence "suggests" that the Ludim are theLydians.[1]

According toJosephus, their land was inLibyawhich was west of Egypt near the tribes ofPhutin the land of theMoorstowards the extreme west ofAfricaand theAtlantic Ocean.[2]Plinyin his natural history mentions the river Laud along south of theAtlas Mountainsnear the river Fut (Phut).[3]Medieval biblical exegeteSaadia Gaon, identifies the Ludim withTanisiin, and which R.Yosef Qafihthought may have been referring to the inhabitants ofTunis.[4]

These Ludim should not be confused with another group who were said to descend fromLud,son ofShem, son ofNoah.

Ludim is sometimes thought to be a scribal error forLubim,in reference toLibyans.
