Lurganis one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) inArmagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon,Northern Ireland.[1]The district elects seven members toArmagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Counciland contains the wards of Aghagallon, Knocknashane, Lough Road, Magheralin, Mourneview, Parklake and Shankill.[2]Lurgan forms part of the Upper Bann constituencies for theNorthern Ireland AssemblyandUK Parliament.
It was created for the1985 local elections,replacingCraigavon Area Dwhich had existed since 1973, where it contained seven wards (Church, Knocknashane, Magheralin, Mourneview, Parklake, Taghnevan and Waringstown). For the2014 local electionsit gained much of the abolishedLoughside DEAaround Aghagallon, while losing areas to the newLagan River DEAaround Waringstown.
