Mohamed Ehuttar Hadjiar Mohamed Ali(27 March 1925 – 31 December 2004) was aCeylonesepolitician and Member of Parliament.

Early life and family

Mohamed Ali was born on 27 March 1925 nearKinniyain easternCeylon.[1][2]His brother wasM. E. H. Maharoof.[3]

Career

Mohamed Ali was chairman of Kinniya Village Council.[3]

Mohamed Ali stood as theCommunist Partycandidate inMuturat the1947 parliamentary electionbut was defeated by theUnited National PartycandidateA. R. A. M. Abubucker.[2][4]He stood as anindependentcandidate in Mutur at the1952 parliamentary election.He won the election and enteredParliament.[2][5]He was re-elected at the1956andMarch 1960parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.[6][7]He stood as theUnited National Party(UNP) candidate in Mutur at theJuly 1960 parliamentary electionbut failed to get re-elected.[8]

Mohamed Ali played a leading role in the 1961 satyagraha campaign organised byIllankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi(ITAK).[2]Following the death of ITAK MPT. Ahambaram,Mohamed Ali contested the Muturby-electionon 28 June 1962 as the ITAK candidate and was re-elected to Parliament.[9][10][11]He was re-elected at the1965 parliamentary election.[2][12]He stood as the UNP candidate in Mutur at the1970 parliamentary electionbut failed to get re-elected.[2][13]

Mohamed Ali later served as Ceylonese ambassador to Maldives, and deputy chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board.[14]He died on 31 December 2004 at his home.[2]
