Maharashtri KonkaniorKonkan Marathi,is a group of Konkanic dialects spoken in theKonkan divisionof theKonkan region.[2]George Abraham Grierson,aBritish Indianlinguist of the colonial era referred to these dialects as theKonkan Standard of Marathiin order to differentiate it inside theKonkani languagegroup.[3]

Because speakers ofGoan KonkaniandCanara Konkani, which are distinct and different sets of Konkani dialects, refer to their language as simply "Konkani",Maharashtri Konkani is often mistakenly extended to cover these dialect groups[citation needed].
