Mahengeis a town in theMahenge MountainsofTanzania.It is the headquarters ofUlanga DistrictinMorogoro Region.
There is a hospital, a market, and primary schools. A CatholicCapuchinmission was established around 1897, and there is now aSt. FrancisKasita Seminary at Mahenge. TheDioceseof Mahenge was established in 1964. TheGerman East Africanofficer,Theodor von Hasseldied here in 1935. His son,Kai-Uwe von Hassellater became theMinister PresidentofSchleswig-Holstein.
