Biography

Mak was born on 8 November 1989, in Hong Kong.[1]He attendedCity University of Hong Kongto pursue an associate degree and joined the university's drama club. He became interested in acting after performing in several stage plays and transferred toHong Kong Academy for Performing Artsin 2010 to acquire aBFAin performing arts.[2][3]After graduating in 2014, Mak joined theChung Ying Theatre Company[zh]and performed in numerous stage plays.[4]He earned an nomination for Best Supporting Actor in the25th Hong Kong Drama Awards.[5]

In 2019, Mak left the Theatre Company and began to work as a freelance actor.[2]He featured in the 2020ViuTVdrama seriesWarriors Within[zh]and the 2021 biographical filmZero to Hero.[6][3]Mak received his breakthrough and first leading role in Ho Cheuk Tin's legal thrillerThe Sparring Partnerin 2022, portraying a retarded and manipulated murder accomplice loosely based on real-life personAngus Tse.[7]His performance received widespread acclaim from both the critics and the audience.[7][8]One of his lines in the film, where he tells the jury and opposing counsels feel free to frame him, had also become a viral internet meme in Hong Kong.[9][10]He wonBest Newcomerin the16th Asian Film Awards,[11]and received nominations forBest Actorin the41st Hong Kong Film Awardsand Best Actor in the29th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awardin the following year with the role.[12][13]In 2023, Mak had a cameo appearance in Ho Cheuk Tin'sblack comedy filmOver My Dead Body.[14]
