Malchin(German pronunciation:[malˈçiːn]) is a town in theMecklenburgische Seenplattedistrict, inMecklenburg-Western Pomerania,in north-easternGermany.

History

The name of the town is of Slavic origin. It was granted town rights in 1236.

DuringWorld War II,in February 1945, a German-perpetrateddeath marchofAlliedprisoners-of-war from theStalag XX-B POW camppassed through the town.^[2]

The former municipalityDuckowwas merged into Malchin in January 2019.
