TheMatachewan dike swarmis a large 2,500 to 2,450 million year oldPaleoproterozoicdike swarmofNorthern Ontario,Canada.It consists ofbasalticdikesthat wereintrudedingreenschist,granite-greenstone, and metamorphosed sedimentaryterrainsof theSuperior Cratonof theCanadian Shield.[1]With an area of 360,000 square kilometres (140,000 sq mi), the Matachewan dike swarm stands as alarge igneous province.[2]
