Ecclesiastical history

Materiana was anepiscopal seebut no longer has adiocesan bishop.Accordingly, it is included in theCatholic Church's list oftitular sees.[1] The only known bishop of this diocese from antiquity is Peregrino, who took part in the synod gathered in Carthage by the Vandal king ofHunaricin 484, after which he wasexiled.[2][3]

Today Materiana survives as atitular bishop's seat; the current titular bishop isAnton Ranjith Pillainayagam,auxiliary bishopofColombo.
