Mews Small(bornMary Edith Wilard Small) is an American actress[1]and singer. She was known professionally asMarya Smallduring the 1970s and has also been credited asMerrya Small,Mary Small Rusk,andMary Small.[1]

Acting career

Small got her acting start in a 1966 theatre production ofThe Sound of MusicinStowe, Vermont.[2]She has since acted in numerous feature films and television shows.[1]

Small originated the role of Frenchy in the original Broadway production of the musicalGrease,with a cast includingBarry BostwickandAdrienne Barbeau.[3]She was later joined by cast membersJohn Travolta,Patrick Swayze,Treat Williams,andMarilu Henner.[4]

Small is best known for her roles as Candy in the filmOne Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest(credited as Marya Small)[5][6]and Dr. Nero inWoody Allen's filmSleeper.[7]She also portrayed theJanis Joplin-inspired role of Frankie[8]in the animated rotoscope filmAmerican Pop.[9]Small appeared in the first episode ofKolchak: The Night Stalkerin 1975.

Mews is the lead singer of her band Mews Small and The Small Band, who has released a CDDo What You Doin 2008.[10]She also sings regularly withSuzy Williams,and the two have written songs together.

Politics

Mews Small ran as theNatural Law Partynominee for theUnited States House of RepresentativesforCalifornia's 25th congressional districtin 2000. She received 1.35% or 3,010 votes.[11][12]
